Brescia House ends the year on a high note

BRYANSTON – Three learners at Brescia House School were awarded for their achievements during an award ceremony.

Brescia House School in Morningside ended the year on a high note with the announcement of three very prestigious awards.

Two learners were awarded honours blazers while the third has been selected to represent South Africa in 36th World Championships for Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Grade 11 learners Erin Wakefield was selected by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee to represent South Africa at the gymnastics competition held in Bulgaria in 2018. Many hours of hard work went into this achievement and she is now ranked as the number two senior gymnast in South Africa and has been awarded her Protea’s blazer. In recognition of her dedication and achievement at the highest level, the External Sports Trophy was awarded to Erin.

This was followed by the announcement of the two honours blazer recipients. Sarah Everett was described as an excellent ambassador for Brescia House School and a true well-rounded young lady. She has worked to achieve her four full colours and has contributed her talents to the school across several disciplines. She was awarded orienteering full colours earlier this year and is a regular top performer in the schools orienteering league. Her consistently high academic performance was recognised with academic full colours at the recent prize-giving. On 6 December, her long-term contribution to athletics and excellent performance on the track was acknowledged, with Sarah being awarded full colours in athletics. In addition to her sporting achievements, she is a knowledgeable and skilled debater who was also awarded full colours in debating. Her hard work and determination were rewarded when she was presented with the White Honours blazer.

Another recipient of the honours blazer on the day was Heather Wimberley. Heather is a talented sportswoman who gained full colours in both hockey and orienteering, always showing total commitment and giving of her utmost to whatever she undertakes. She has a superb academic track record and was awarded full academic colours and the Board of Governors’ scholarship at the recent prize-giving ceremony. She is also an accomplished musician who has, this year, passed her Grade 7 music examinations on two different instruments, thus gaining full colours for music, qualifying her for her White Honours blazer.
