Junior Colleges Sandton recently appointed a new principal to oversee and grow the school.
Bev O’Shea, who effectively started in her position on 1 October has a vast background in education.
O’Shea was previously at Junior Colleges Tiny Town where she successfully ran the school for the past 14 years. She is a qualified ECD Montessori teacher and her passion for teaching and educating children is a great advantage to the Junior Colleges brand.
She will now manage a larger school with about 200 children, a big leap from the 70 children at Tiny Town.
She is married with two adult boys, has a kind and gentle manner and loves gardening and reading in her spare time.
“Teaching was something I always wanted to do, and when my children were still young I decided to study teaching,” she said.
O’Shea started as a part-time teacher and once her children grew older she went into teaching full-time.
“I was at one school for 12 years and after that, I was asked to run Tiny Town which I did for the past 14 years.”
She said she wanted the challenge of a bigger school. “I like to be challenged and I am very driven.”
Junior Colleges is open for children from Grade 0 to 3 and they have the potential to grow.
“I am very hands-on and I like to be visible within the school where I can see the children develop and grow.”
Her vision for the new school is for it to be a top pre-school and foundation-phase institution.
