The City of Johannesburg’s GFIS (Group Forensic and Investigation Service) recently arrested 14 suspects for operating a bogus recruitment agency.
Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba said unsuspecting jobseekers sent their CVs to the company and they were instructed to pay a R650 fee to secure placement as firefighters for the City’s Emergency Management Services.
The suspects were arrested in a sting operation conducted by the investigation service, the Hawks and the Metro police. Investigations are ongoing and more suspects are expected to be arrested, he said.
“I would like to call on anyone who has fallen victim to this sort of criminal activity to come forward with any information to assist with more arrests. The suspects were operating from 155 Ilpa House,
Commissioner Street in the Johannesburg CBD,” Mashaba said. “This is a milestone in prioritising the need to bring back the rule of law to our communities.”
