A man was recently sentenced to 58 years in prison for various offences.
According to Brigadier Egen Moodley, station commander at the Sandton Police Station, the sterling conviction was led by investigating officer, Detective Constable Lebeya of Sandton detectives.
Moodley said that Wanda Smanga Masilela was recently found guilty for the murder of advocate, Mandla Zulu on six counts. These include 25 years for murder, five years for kidnapping the deceased, five years for kidnapping the deceased’s wife, 15 years for robbery/hijacking, six years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for being in possession of unlicensed ammunition.
The incident occurred on 30 May last year when Masilela shot and killed Zulu in a hijacking.
Zulu exited his vehicle and attempted to flee before he was shot in the abdomen. He was then forced into the back seat of the Range Rover with his wife and robbed of their personal belongings.
Masilela then drove around with the injured Zulu and his wife before dropping them in Lonehill.
The Sandton Chronicle reported on 9 August last year about the arrest of the 33-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of Zulu.
Moodley said that Masilela was sentenced in the North Gauteng High Court.
