Bryanston Primary learners Play it Forward

SANDTON – Four boys from Bryanston Primary School recently started an initiative to assist under privileged kids with sporting goods.

Four Grade 6 boys from Bryanston Primary School are making a big impact with their initiative.

Ross Garrett, Cameron O’Neill, Aazan Khan and Michael Adamson started the Play it Forward Jozi initiative which brings second-hand sporting gear to underprivileged schools and players, which give those with limited means access to much-needed sporting equipment.

Their tag-line is, Uniting All through Sports and their goal is to transform the lives of aspiring athletes.

The initiative started earlier this year while the boys were brainstorming ways to help those less fortunate than them. “We wanted to start up some sort of charity at the start of this year but we weren’t sure what. We wanted to do something that we enjoyed doing. One of the moms came up with the idea of collecting and donating ‘gently used’ sports equipment to those in need. We were all very excited to do that, and were also inspired by other little charities that local children have started up,” the boys said.

They said that people have been really kind and generous and have helped them to Play It Forward.

Alison Garrett, Ross’s mother said that Play it Forward Jozi has been working with Sal’s Shoes, a registered UK-based charity which will be coming to South Africa in October, to distribute pre-loved children’s shoes to those who need it most.

“They asked Play It Forward Jozi to help them collect sports equipment for the children in Meriting near Ennerdale, an informal settlement just outside of Lenasia.”

For this project, the boys of Play it Forward Jozi contacted Mr Price Sport in the hope of getting sporting equipment donated and the Mr Price Sport team jumped right on board.

The staff of Mr Price Sport in Sandton City donates soccer balls to a worthy cause.

Cindy Wilson, brand coordinator at Mr Price Sport helped make it happen. “The boys took to our Sandton store to collect twenty soccer balls. We salute these young boys with big hearts. Well done and thanks to Rhoda, Jack and our Sandton Mr Price Sport team for kindly assisting this wonderful cause.”

The boys are avid athletes and they want to keep it going even when they go to high school in 2020.
