Professor Njabulo Ndebele at #NelsonMandela welcomes voice of Obama

ILLOVO - Thousands of people attend the Nelson Mandela Lecture.

Professor Njabulo Ndebele, the chairman of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, told scores of people attending the 16th annual #NelsonMandelaLecture that they had heeded the call of former struggle stalwart, Ahmed Kathrada.

The lecture, delivered by former USA President Barack Obama, was held at the Wanderers Stadium and was attended by many dignitaries including the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Mandela’s widow Graca Machel and businessman Patrice Motsepe.

“Kathrada never stopped requesting the Nelson Mandela lecture and today we did as he has been requesting,” said Ndebele.

“Madiba’s campus stands steadfast… in him, we could see the existence of power and beauty.”

Ndebele said Obama was a leader who sought to bring hope to the people of his native country.

“In the centenary of Nelson Mandela, we welcome the voice of Obama. He has things to tell us and ideas that we need to hear from him.

“Let’s find the Madiba’s in us and restore the beauty of our country.”
