VIDEO: City insources 1 600 new security guards

SANDTON – The City of Johannesburg has successfully insourced the first 1 600 of more than 4 000 contract security workers.

The City of Johannesburg recently announced that 1 600 security personnel have been insourced for permanent work.

This announcement was made by MMC for corporate and shared services, Councillor Ntombi Khumalo and MMC for public safety, Councillor Michael Sun, who are pleased to announce that the City has completed insourcing the first 1 600 contract security workers out of over 4 000 personnel.

According to a statement, the next phase of insourcing for the remaining workers will be implemented over the next few weeks. The security guards began their official duties on 1 July.
Previously, the City outsourced its security services through more than 150 contracts with service providers paying on average R14 000 per security guard, while the guards themselves received as little as R4 500 per month.

In addition, Khumalo and Sun will reveal the new framework and shift system on 3 July that was signed, as all employees are ordinarily expected to work shifts.
