FF Plus condemns Makhura’s call for interdicts

JOBURG – The FF Plus in Gauteng said Premier David Makhura is to blame for the land grabs in the province as he did not reject land expropriation without compensation during his State of the Province Address (Sopa).

The FF Plus in Gauteng strongly condemns Premier David Makhura’s call made on 13 March for all municipalities, provincial government departments and property owners to secure standing court interdicts in order to prevent illegal land grabs in Gauteng.

As the province is currently seeing a spate of illegal land invasions, Makhura made the call in a bid to deal with the problem that seems to be spirally out of control in the province.

“The FF Plus is of the opinion that if the premier really was serious about not tolerating land grabs in the province, he would have turned his back on the ANC during his provincial address by not expressing support for the policy of land expropriation without compensation. But instead of doing that, he made sure that land grabs are now ensuing across the province,” said Phillip van Staden of the FF Plus in a statement.

“With his provincial address earlier this month, Makhura himself paved the way for land grabs to take place in Gauteng. During his speech, he openly expressed support for the national government’s policy of land expropriation without compensation.”

Van Staden said the FF Plus strongly opposed Makhura and made it clear that the party will never support the expropriation policy, but will fight it on national, provincial and municipal levels.

He went on to say that Makhura had thrown all landowners in Gauteng to the wolves and is leaving them to their fate. “He doesn’t care about what happens to landowners as he is putting the responsibility to take action squarely on the shoulders of municipalities and property owners,” said Van Staden.
