Playing for Pink gives R130k to charity

INANDA – The Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo raised R130k for charity last year. This year the theme is 'pink fire'.

It was another glamorous and joyous occasion when the proceeds from last year’s Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo were presented to Reach for Recovery.

A whopping R130 000 was raised from the polo and fashion fiesta in October, and on 26 February Inanda Club played host to miss SA, Adé van Heerden, her first princess, Boipelo Mabe, and other celebrities to see it given to the non-profit support group that helps women suffering from breast cancer.

“Cell C [the main sponsors at the polo, and collaborators of the Miss SA Pageant] understand the role of women in society and the prosthesis’ functionality in helping women be accepted again,” Van Heerden said.

Through the funds raised by the polo event in the last three years, Reach for Recovery has distributed breast prostheses to 176 women through its Ditto project.

Stephné Jacobs, the volunteer chairperson of the organisation, said these prostheses help women who suffer from breast cancer come to terms with the change and maintain dignity if they have had a breast removed.

“The Playing for Pink Polo is always a highlight on our calendar,” she said.

“Not just in terms of the funds raised and the awareness we create, but it is one that honours our volunteers who do the service.”

Edith Venter, CEO of Edith Unlimited, organisers of the event, revealed that the theme of this year’s event is ‘pink fire’, and said it will be held on 27 October.

Polo manager at the club, Craig James concluded the handover by thanking all the sponsors and saying, “It is awesome to be part of this event and we are proud to be part of it.”
