Hundreds of children from a French international school take on the Midmar Mile

MORNINGSIDE – Many children from Lycée Jules Verne French International School competed in the Midmar Mile, making the school, based in Morningside, the third most represented group at the event.

About 100 students from Lycée Jules Verne, a French international school took part in the Midmar Mile in KwaZulu-Natal on 10 and 11 February.

Head of communication at the school in Morningside, Olivia Bihry said, “Among international stars, our young swimmers [from grades 4 to 12] embarked on crossing the dam for one mile [1,6 kms]. Congratulations to all students who had the courage to take part in this event.”

The school was the third most represented school at the competition. According to Bihry, a light breeze disturbed the calm of the dam, but despite hot temperatures and a windy event, everyone was able to reach the finish line on time.

Schoolchildren are competing to win the coveted Jules Verne Trophy, which combines performances at a running, swimming and cycling event to determine the ultimate sporting champion.

Many children from grades 4 to 12 at Lycée Jules Verne French international school competed in the Midmar Mile.

Bihry highlighted the performance of Alexandre Nunes-Churin (Grade 5) for having the best time in the running and swimming events.

There are still 30 children in the running to walk home with the trophy. The final is the mountain bike challenge, which will take place on 25 March.
