Moral leader of 2017 announced at annual Sandton Justice Pageant

SANDTON – The Justice Pageant announced Tamzin Vassanjee the Moral Leader of 2017 at their finale event on 26 November.

 

The Justice Pageant finale took place on 16 November during a glamorous ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton.

Lawyer Tamzin Vassanjee, who has a master’s degree in law from the University of the Witwatersrand, was the winner of the competition. Vassanjee told the audience that she will never allow herself to think that she has learned enough, grown enough or laughed enough.

The first runner-up was Shelly Tebele from Burgersfort, who is busy with a diploma in law through the University of South Africa, and the second runner-up was Modipadi Mokwena, who is studying towards a diploma in electrical engineering.

The pageant, which was launched in Sandton in 2015, judges finalists on their ability to teach the necessity of morality in schools and to challenge schools to tackle moral projects.

Moral leadership was celebrated, encouraged and illuminated on the night as finalists confirmed their commitment to creating a crime-free South Africa.

Jolene Leeuwner-Maritz, CEO of Justice Pageants and the No Crime Culture Project said, “We sowed seeds… sometimes in the soil and sometimes in the soul… but we sowed as much as we could.”

The most important duty of all the contestants was to convince the audience during a debate session that they possess the qualities of a leader with moral authority.

Judges took into consideration the work they have done with children in schools across the country. Contestants were tasked to encourage and inspire children to actively engage in moral activities. Some of the moral projects included the building of community gardens to feed underprivileged children and the writing of songs, poetry and artwork that depicts the importance of morality for the greater good of South Africa.

Vassanjee walked away with a car sponsored for the year of her reign by Own-A-Rental, a cash prize sponsored by Leeuwner Maritz Attorneys and a number of other prizes.
