Joburg Water update is that the repair on the pipeline is done. We are now only doing adding further security measures to ensure 200% compliance. It means that we are delaying the flushing of the system in the interest of safety. Well done to Joburg Water. @JHBWater

The entity has lost a number of Jojo tanks that have been removed or borrowed illegally /stolen and that impacts on alternative supply to residents @JHBWater @CityofJoburgZA @NicoDeJager64 pic.twitter.com/t5GM8NRn6d— Isaac Dhludhlu-🇿🇦🇸🇿 🐦 (@Isaac_Dhludhlu) November 22, 2017
Update, 12pm:
“Now entering the final stages of the repair work on the mainline before we start closing the hatch created to enter the pipe. Work progressing well, but it will be quite some time before we normalise supply. Probably 12 hours,” said Nico De Jager, MMC for environment and infrastructure services.

Burst made more difficult to repair because of groundwater and instability as a result of it being a landfill site. @JHBWater pic.twitter.com/YKO7WP93TF

On site with Joburg Water to restore water to the northern part of the city. Joburg Water will not cut corners to restore this line even if it takes longer than expected. The teams have been working 48 hours to stabilise and secure the area. @JHBWater pic.twitter.com/YL5T2H5yNi

2 lines one X 6 bar feeding 6 reservoirs and 1X 22 bar main line from Randwater bulk supply. The complexity exasperated by a landfill site that developed on top of the water lines. This is not an the most complexed fix and we appeal to residents to be patient @JHBWater pic.twitter.com/GF2i425uVY

22 November, 10am:
Joburg Water claimed to have water tanks located in a number of areas, however, this seems to not be the case. Sandton schools and old-age homes are struggling without water, as the promised tanks had not arrived by 22 November.
Bryanston Primary School estate manager Grant Hard said he had waited to receive the promised water tank yesterday, 21 November, but nothing arrived. “People have been calling us asking about the water tank, but there is nothing here.
“We are currently running on borehole water to keep as much water going as possible for sanitary use but there is no drinking water available.”
The school reported that they are making use of borehole water to flush toilets.
Willowbrook Village manager Carel Botha explained that they are also affected by the water outage. “Luckily we have our own tank inside our property and are able to collect water from other retirement villages,” said Botha.
Mediclinic Morningside public relations manager, Debbie Gebhardt said, “We have our own 12 000 litre tank that is supplied with water, so if we catch it in time we are able to ask the entity [Joburg Water] to bring us some more. We are being affected as the water tank supplies much-needed water to our dialysis patients and many others.”
Zotos Property Group who manages Petervale Shopping Centre’s explained that they do not have a water tanker. According to them, City of Johannesburg is currently only servicing emergency places such as schools, old-age homes and clinics. They added that they are not sure why the shopping centre was added to the lists of water tankers.

The areas where water tankers are placed, are nowhere near our suburbs. That is the crux of the matter.

Buccleuch, Woodmead, Gallo Manor, Wendywood, Morningside, Kelvin must all drive to Sandton CBD to get a glimpse of tankers.
— Kelvin Residents Association (@myKelvin_KRA) November 22, 2017
again, we dependent on private institutions to provide for us what Council should be providing!!!!
— Hassan Saib (@hassan_saib) November 22, 2017
from what i see on press releases,in Sandton CBD there 10 are tankers within a 3km radius. and Kelvin doesn't even have ONE!!!!
— Hassan Saib (@hassan_saib) November 22, 2017
The communication on location of water tankers is lacking and needs to be sent out to residents of affected areas. This could have been done better.
