Hot 91.9FM cares for the community

The Hot team, along with the Hot Cares ambassador, Buddy descended on Sandton City last week with the aim of raising R1 million for Hot Cares beneficiaries.

Joburg’s Hot 91.9 FM celebrated its third birthday this month by proving that it is the radio station that cares. The Hot team, along with the Hot Cares ambassador, Buddy descended on Sandton City last week with the aim of raising R1 million for Hot Cares beneficiaries.

The team was joined by local celebrities and artists, including Danny K, Louise Carver and Maddy Behrens, who all gave of their time to man phones and take pledges from the public.

“Any chance I get to contribute in any way, especially to kids, I must take. I just hope to always inspire and engage with South Africans and make a difference in the country you want to see,” said singer Danny K before he took his turn answering phones.

The TeddyThon ran from 6am on Friday morning to 6.30pm on Friday evening and DJs were on site to entertain both those listening on the radio and those who had come to view the spectacle live at Sandton City.

“Things are going fantastically well; we are already on R260 000 and it’s only been two and a half hours. We want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us,” said Hot 91.9FM founder and managing director. Lloyd Madurai.

All the money that is raised will go to help those who need help within the Hot 91.9 FM community. Donations did not only come in the form of cash, some businesses donated vouchers, like the R 20 000 in vouchers donated by Edgars.

“What an unbelievable day. The people of Gauteng and Hot 91.9 listeners have been giving so much in difficult times, but we all know that this money is going to be used for such special causes,” said Sasha Martinengo during his broadcast.

At the time of going to press, the amount raised was sitting at R855 000 with another 60 minutes still to go.
