Equipment handover assists Metro police to remove illegal advertising

BRYANSTON – To tackle the scourge of illegal advertising in the area, residents of Ward 102 purchased equipment to assist Metro police officers in removing the illegal advertising.

In an effort to tackle the profusion of illegal advertising in Ward 102, councillor David Potter and a group of residents teamed up to purchase equipment to assist Metro police in removing the small illegal advertising signs in the area.

Six sets of side cutters, scrapers and spray bottles were presented to region B Metro police on 13 November from the residents in Ward 102.

Potter said, “It is hoped that JMPD will make good use of the tools in the eradication of illegal small sign advertising plaguing the ward and region. We would like to keep the pressure on JMPD and the City to take decisive action against offenders.”

Potter added that the policy on illegal advertising is currently being reviewed, but he believes that the quicker the small adverts are removed, the better.

“The offenders will then realise that it is futile putting up signage in the area as it may just be removed. There remains an issue with larger trailer type signs across the city, a matter which has been raised with the City executive.”

Potter would like to remind businesses and residents that outdoor advertising needs to be applied for, adding that there are many well-known businesses in the City who are offenders.
