#ICYMI: Robber fatally shot when victim fights back

SANDTON – ER24 have confirmed that a man in 30s was fatally shot in an incident at the corner of Katherine Street and Dennis Road in Sandton last night.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said paramedics were called to the scene at about 8pm after
a member of the public had reportedly heard a number of gunshots in the area. ER24 awaited confirmation at the Sandton Fire Station.

“After a short time, Life Healthcare services alerted ER24 that a man was found lying in the middle of the intersection,” said Meiring.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found a man with a gunshot wound to his chest. Paramedics assessed him and found that he showed no signs of life. Nothing more could be done and he was declared dead at the scene.”

He added that the exact details surrounding the incident were unknown but confirmed that Sandton police were on the scene and conducting investigations into the matter.

Sandton police North Cluster spokesperson, Mohlaume Mamabolo, confirmed that a case of attempted robbery had been opened at the Bramley Police Station.

Mamabolo said the man who was fatally shot was apparently part of a group of four men who tried to rob a pedestrian who retaliated and shot the man dead. The other three robbers fled the scene.

The man who was robbed is known to police and the matter is being investigated.
