Robbery and shooting victim recounts horrific ordeal

BRYANSTON – The 46-year-old mother of two speaks about her horrific robbery ordeal.

The victim of an alleged shooting and robbery incident which took place on 22 October in Bryanston has spoken out about her ordeal.

The 46-year-old victim, a Bryanston resident, wished to remain anonymous out of fear for her safety.

The woman was on her way back from a children’s party with her six-year-old son when she stopped at the shops on Hobart Road.

She suspects she was spotted at the centre and followed home.

“As I was driving home I did not see anybody behind me and I opened the gate to enter my home,” she said.

“I stopped just inside the property and closed the gate when a white Range Rover pulled into the driveway and blocked the gate.”

She said there were four suspects and two of them jumped out of the car. I was outside my vehicle, but quickly jumped back into the car and locked the doors when I saw guns.

“I only thought about the safety of my family and wanted to keep them [suspects] out of the car. I started hooting to try and attract attention from my husband who was inside the house at that moment.

“The two guys were smashing their guns against the windows to try and break them.”

She said one suspect was behind her car and allegedly shot a round through the back window.

“I just told my son to lie down flat and at that moment my husband came running out and a struggle ensued.”

She said at this point she opened the door when the suspects said they only wanted her ring.

“I was just outside the car, kneeling down when the one man put the gun to my leg and pulled the trigger. The suspects also fired at my husband, I remember about four shots going off.

After the suspects fled the scene, the woman said, “I told my husband I was shot and we rushed to Sunninghill Hospital.”

She said that on the way in Riverside they saw the suspects casually driving back past them.

“On the way, we were involved in an accident with three vehicles, but luckily no one was injured. Another man then rushed me to the hospital as my husband had to sort out the accident.”

The victim could not recall the identity of the suspects, but said they were professionals.

“I was very lucky and I feel okay at the moment.”

The victim commended the staff at Sunninghill Hospital for the excellent way they treated her.”

She also said that their children’s school, Bryan Even Primary has been amazing and organised counselling for her two children.

“Always be vigilant as to what goes on around you and always check first that no one is following you or are behind you when entering your home.”
