Several successes for Sandton Police

SANDTON – The Sandton Police have effected various arrests for different crimes the past week.

The Sandton Police Station has had several successes the past week, effecting arrests for various crimes.

Brigadier Egen Moodley, station commander at Sandton Police Station said, “The JMPD tracing unit officers were at a roadblock when they spotted a suspicious vehicle.” The two suspects who were in a light blue Hyundai i20 were arrested after they were linked to an armed robbery and attempted murder that happened in Sandton in August.

“A woman was robbed by three suspects while inside her car on Buccleuch Drive. The suspects also fired a shot at the vehicle, took her ring and personal belongings.”

Moodley said the two suspects were arrested and detained at Sandton Police Station while the police were conducting further investigations.

Another success story is the arrest of a 30-year-old foreign national with an asylum seekers’ temporary permit. The suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Moodley said the success comes after a security group spotted a vehicle with suspicious looking occupants in Buccleuch and apprehended them.

The third police success followed a shootout between two police crime prevention officers from Alexandra and two suspects on 11 October. One suspect was killed and the other suspect fled the scene.

Captian Kay Makhubela, the provincial police spokesperson said the two members were patrolling on London Road when they passed a white Audi A1. When they checked the Audi’s registration number they found that it was false.

“They made a U-turn and later passed the same car. This time the car had another registration number.”

Makhubela said the police members tried to stop the vehicle to search the occupants and vehicle. “The two suspects started to shoot at the police. The police shot back. One suspect was killed and one fled the scene,” said Makhubela.

The suspects’ vehicle was also linked to a carjacking case that happened in Sandton in September. Makhubela said the police recovered a 9mm firearm with a filed-off serial number.
