ICYMI: JMPD vehicle abandoned at fitment centre for 4 months
RIVONIA – A Metro police vehicle has been abandoned at a fitment centre in Rivonia since July because Metro police have failed to pay for the fitments made to the car.
A Metro police vehicle has been abandoned at Rivonia Car Sound in 7th Avenue since July, despite attempts by the fitment centre to contact metro police to make payment for the vehicle.
Owner of Rivonia Car Sound said the vehicle was brought in by a metro police officer on 15 July for a repeat job to transfer hi-tech cameras from one vehicle to another. He requested payment through phone calls and emails, but no-one has paid for or come to collect the vehicle.
Concerned community member Fanie Oosthuizen said he noticed that the vehicle hadn’t moved for more than two months and contacted the Sandton Chronicle to research the matter.
Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said, “One of the reasons why companies don’t get paid on time is because they do the work, but they are not listed as one of the service providers for City departments. That could be the reason for the delay in payment.”
When Sandton Chronicle contacted Rivonia Car Sound at the time of going to print, they reported that the car had still not been collected.
