UPDATE: Cash-in-transit heist on the N1 North at the Buccleuch interchange

BUCCLEUCH – A group of 15 suspects in three vehicles allegedly pulled alongside the vehicle and shot out their front tyres, forcing them to stop.

 

A cash-in-transit heist left traffic severely backed up on the highway near the Buccleuch interchange on Monday night after all lanes were closed to traffic due to reports of possible explosives at the scene.

Initial reports at the scene indicated that a Fidelity vehicle was transporting cash from various points and were on their way to Germiston on the N3 near the Buccleuch interchange when they were attacked.

Explosives were used to blow open the back door and an unknown amount of cash was stolen.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, Gauteng Police spokesperson, confirmed that the 15 suspects forced security officers out of the vehicle after blowing open the back door.

The Hawks are said to be investigating the incident.
