One illegal advertising board down

KELVIN – Ward councillor Werner Smit, the Outdoor Advertising Unit and Metro police were involved in foiling an attempted construction of an illegal advertising billboard.

Ward councillor Werner Smit, the Outdoor Advertising Unit and Metro police were involved in foiling the attempted construction of an illegal advertising billboard on the corner of Eastern Service Road and South Way Street in Kelvin.

On 14 September, Smit noticed an excavation site in close proximity to the foot bridge between Wendywood and Kelvin.

“Speaking to the foreman of the site, he informed me that he didn’t know what the foundation was for nor could he provide the contact details of the people they are doing it for,” said Smit.

He said Jack Sekgobela of Outdoor Advertising Unit said the billboard was deemed illegal. The Outdoor Advertising Bylaw Unit and Metro police were soon sent to intervene. The contractor’s materials and equipment were confiscated by Metro police.

“Thanks to Outdoor Advertising and Metro police for foiling this attempt to construct an illegal outdoor advertising billboard,” said Smit.
