New parkrun for Gallo Manor

GALLO MANOR – Residents of Gallo Manor, Morningside and Wendywood have good reason to get active this spring and join the Ernest Ullmann parkrun.

Gallo Manor, Morningside and Wendywood residents have reason to get active this spring thanks to a new and convenient parkrun in the area.

The Ernest Ullmann parkrun takes place in the beautiful Ernest Ullmann Park in Minto Road, Wendywood, at 8am every Saturday and is looking to increase their participants and volunteers.

South African running legend Bruce Fordyce attended the inaugural Ernest Ullmann parkrun on 19 August and gave a speech to open the event to 340 people.

The community is in their stride at the newly launched Ernest Ullmann parkrun in Wendywood.

Run director Alex Parkins said, “Introducing the parkrun to Ernest Ullmann Park was an initiative of Friends of Sandspruit, who are endeavouring to keep the natural indigenous beauty of the park while improving and maintaining the safety and security of the park, thus encouraging all local residents to frequent this lovely area.”

The run takes a double lap of the park, including the main common grounds and a stretch along the river bank, almost reaching the South Road Bridge.

“The route is unique in that the terrain is more of a trail run on the grass and sandy areas amongst the trees,” said Parkins. She added that positive comments have been received regarding the beauty and tranquillity of the route’s natural scenery. Ducks and other fauna and flora provide a relaxed setting for competitive and casual runners and walkers on the route.
