ICYMI: New era for Women’s Cricket at The Wanderers Club

ILLOVO – In celebration of Women's Day and the introduction of a new era of women's cricket at The Wanderers Cricket Club, women were given free membership when they signed up online.

In celebration of Women’s Day and the start of a new era of women’s cricket at The Wanderers Cricket Club, free membership was given to all women who signed up online on 9 August to join the club in Illovo.

Following the rise in interest in women’s cricket after the success of the Momentum Proteas at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup last month, The Wanderers Club decided to launch the first-ever women’s team at the club.

The club would like to play an active role in showcasing women’s cricket at club level and attracting a new generation of women and girls to the sport. They also hope to promote youth participation in cricket in Gauteng.

They are currently looking for female players aged 15 and above to join the team. Women can be experienced cricketers or novices.

Wanderers Cricket Club chairman Frank Auger said, “Wanderers Cricket Club will be looking to enter a team in Gauteng Cricket Board’s Women’s league. Trials will take place during September, and weekly practices will be held at The Wanderers Club. We are inviting all women cricketers to join us.”
