Sandton gets lit up as young DJs set fire to the music scene

SANDTON – The Sands Sandton recently played host to some of the most talented young DJs.

The Sands Sandton recently hosted what must be the largest U19 house music party in Gauteng, with hundreds of young music fans flocking to the venue to support their favourite DJs.

The event known as Litty Street is the brainchild of Aaron Ngwenya and Khosi Sibanda, who have been spinning decks since the tender age of 15.

“We have been mixing since Grade 9 and have grown to love it. We want to take our knowledge and skills and help other young DJs get some stage time,” said Ngwenya.

The electronic dance music scene has always been popular in South Africa but has proven prohibitive for younger DJs who struggle to find shows and promote themselves to wider audiences. This is where Ngwenya and Sibanda come in.

“We are fully committed to helping young musicians out there and on the stage,” said Sibanda.

“Litty Street is an event and entertainment concept that celebrates young people of all races from across Johannesburg coming together support the youngest and freshest DJs this city has to offer. We want to showcase the amazing talent you can find at high school level.”

The party, which took place on 1 July, was the second major DJ event hosted by Litty Events.

Trenton Davies, one of the many young party-goers who attended the event, was over the moon with the quality of music performed at the party. “I can’t believe that some of these DJs are still in school. They really performed at an international level,” said Davies.
