Sandton Sharks Junior Action Cricket League enjoys its 9th consecutive year

SANDTON – The Sandton Indoor Action Sports arena hosted the Sandton Sharks Junior Action Cricket team in the biggest league in South Africa.

The Sandton Indoor Action Sports Arena hosted the Sandton Sharks Junior Action Cricket League for the ninth consecutive year.

It is the biggest junior action cricket league event in South Africa with 47 teams from 52 schools participating.

The tournament is sponsored by Blue Label Telecoms and is for all U9, U10, U11, U12 and U13 players from around Johannesburg who want to enjoy the indoor format of cricket. The event has become a real drawcard for top outdoor players from all the schools and it runs for six consecutive weeks over the winter period.

Former Proteas player, Adam Bacher gives a team talk before the final.

Many of these players are then chosen to represent Central Gauteng Action Cricket and participate in the annual South African Indoor Cricket Federation inter-provincial tournament.

Braydon Dixon, the arena’s spokesperson and COO said, “It is a pleasure for us to host such an event and watch the young stars enjoy six weeks of fun and action. The Sandton Indoor Action Sports Arena will continue to invest in the youth and South Africa’s future heroes.”

Jono Leaf-Wright, national U19 talent scout for Cricket South Africa said, “It is a privilege for me to sit on both sides of the fence and see the benefits that outdoor and indoor cricket has on the players.”

He said the indoor game taught players a different skill of awareness and sharpness and he encouraged all young players to play the sport.

“I have personally witnessed many SA U19 outdoor players and current franchise players and Proteas play the indoor version as youngsters and how it has benefitted their holistic game of cricket.”

Leaf-Wright added that the days were gone where outdoor players could not play indoor cricket as it was not a change of technique that was needed, but rather the mindset of playing the different version.

The Sandton Sharks Junior League looks forward to its 10th year in 2018 and the Sandton Indoor Action Sports Arena is excited to host this event again and see more young champions on its courts.
