The prestigious Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts (Feda) was won by the St Stithians Boys College and as part of the winning prize, the boys will be performing at the Grahamstown Arts Festival later this year.
The cast and crew of Disruption performed on 27 May at the Feda 2017 grand finale evening, with their performance not only delighting the audience but also placing them in first place.
Feda is an annual festival for Joburg schools dramatic arts departments to compete and showcase their skill and talent on the stage. Schools first perform at two festivals namely, the Original Works festival and the Published Works festival. The winners of these two festivals then go on to perform and compete, alongside two other plays to win the title of overall Feda winner.
“We are very pleased to announce that St Stithians Boys’ College won Best Chorus and Best Director. Furthermore, It is with undeniable pride we announce that St Stithians Boys’ College, out of 67 schools who entered, went on to win the Feda of 2017 with the Best Production,” said Matthew Ross, the St Stithians Boys’ College teacher-in-charge for Feda 2017.
St Stithians Boys’ College teacher-in-charge for Feda, Matthew Ross said, “After the performances there were several awards that were handed out of which we were nominated for best sound, best lighting, best visual effects, best chorus, best ensemble, most inspirational play, best original script and best director. A huge congratulations to the cast and crew who have won R10 000 and the opportunity to perform twice at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown this year.”
