SANDTON – South African flavour for West End hit.

With the Easter holidays just around the corner, many parents wonder how to keep their little ones entertained during the holidays.

The South African version of the worldwide phenomenon and West End hit, The Gruffalo, opens on 11 April at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square in Sandton. The production is based on the 1999 picture book written for children by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler which has sold more than 13 million copies in 75 editions worldwide.

The cast includes Yanda Nondlwana, Nombasa Ngoqo, Sisonke Yafele and Mandishi Heshue and is directed by Tara Notcutt. The production boasts a uniquely South African flavour and is ideal for children between the ages of three and 10, and their parents. Audience participation, ingenious comedic work by the narrator and carefully spaced rhymes and bouncy songs keep busy young minds focused while the rest of the family will enjoy the energy and fun of children’s theatre.

Manager at Theatre Scene Cape Town, Barbara Loots said, “It is an enchanting production, powered by the energy of kidlet-giggles that ripple through the room as they respond to the characters on stage.”

After hugely successful runs in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth as well as an equally well-received holiday season in Port Alfred, The Gruffalo is ready to set Joburg alight.

The show will open on 11 April at 11am and will be in town until 7 May with two shows most days (11am and 3pm).
