Police investigate attempted murder case involving Orlando Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba

MIDRAND - Police are investigating two cases of attempted murder, one involving an Orlando Pirates player.

 

Rabie Ridge police are investigating two cases of attempted murder reported on 26 February which involved Orlando Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba.

Thabo Matlaba claims he was involved in an attempted hijacking after police charged him with attempted murder.

Matlaba was allegedly involved in a shootout in Ben Hlophe Street in Phomolong at about 4am in the morning on 26 February. The soccer star accused the driver of a white Toyota Corolla of allegedly shooting at his car. The driver of the Corolla filed counter charges against Matlaba, also accusing him of allegedly shooting at his car.

Matlaba’s blue BMW had two bullet holes at the front while the white Toyota Corolla had two bullet holes in the front and back on the left side of the car.

“Both complainants opened a case against the other. Currently, we are investigating two cases of attempted murder and no one has been arrested yet,” said spokesperson for Rabie Ridge police Captain Mofala Masele.

However, Matlaba’s agent Abbie Rasimphi claimed that Matlaba was involved in an attempted hijacking.

The vehicle belonging to the other driver who laid charges against Thabo Matlala.

“He had just dropped off his friend when four men attempted to hijack him. I don’t know [anything] about the attempted hijacking but what I have told you, is what I know,” said Rasimphi.
