St Stithians Girls’ College took home multiple gold medals at the National Aquatics Championships.
The school’s first water polo team have had a successful season with two consecutive national wins and also won the National Aquatics Water Polo Championship trophy.

This is the third time the school has won the tournament, having won it in both 2010 and 2011.
The championship was held in Pretoria and featured a few of the top aquatics schools in the country.
In the group water polo playoffs, Saints played St Mary’s Waverley and won 9–1. The school then took on St Mary’s Kloof and won 12–1 and then Pietermaritzburg Girls High School, winning 23–1.
In the semifinals, Saints beat Clarendon and then defeated St Mary’s Waverley in the final after the Waverley school had beaten Durban Girls College in the other semifinal.
Meanwhile, St Stithians diving teams came first in the U15 and U16 section.

Bailey Davenport, who is in Grade 8 and is a provincial diver, competed in the U15 diving competition and won gold. Bailey Heydra, who is also in Grade 8 and a provincial diver, competed in the U16 diving competition and also won gold.
Natasha Panzera, director of sport at the school said, “It was a great start to the season. We have a lot of work to put in for the remainder of the season, but the team is looking good so far. We are delighted with these results and are very proud of all the hard training that has been done by our girls in the pre-season.”
