UPDATE: More information on Bryanston shooting that left one dead

BRYANSTON - An update on the shooting that took place at a local restaurant on Hobart Road, in Bryanston.

After the recent incident that took place outside the Hobart Grove Centre where a man was fatally shot and a woman stabbed, more information has come to light.
Yvette Barker, owner of Wombles Steakhouse and her gardener Tabani Dube was attacked by two armed robbers.
According to Elsabe Booyens, speaking on behalf of Wombels Steakhouse, Barker was on her way to deliver stock and other goods for the restaurant which was closed at the time.
“She was stabbed twice and was treated at a local medical facility and released on the same day. Unfortunately, Dube, who was standing next to Barker’s vehicle, was shot and fatally injured by the second assailant,” said Booyens.
She continued that shoppers and centre staff assisted the victims and called emergency services. “The attack was caught on CCTV cameras and all the footage is currently with the SAPS team investigating the attack.
“The management team of Wombles would like to reassure guests and patrons that the safety and security of their guests are paramount and that they have added an additional security guard to the existing team of two who are always on duty during operating hours. This is in addition to the security team provided by the Hobart shopping centre,” said Booyens.
She said that Dube was a valued member of the Barker family and that they are making arrangements to support his family with the costs of the funeral.
“The management and staff of Wombles would like to take this opportunity to express their sadness at the loss of a valued member of staff in a senseless act of violence and reassures guests that it’s business as usual at Wombles,” said Booyens.

Just before 1pm yesterday afternoon EMER-G-MED paramedics, as well as Netcare911 and various other services, responded to reports of a shooting outside a restaurant on Hobart Road, in Bryanston.

On arrival paramedics found that two people had been injured after an armed robbery. One patient sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest, paramedics immediately began CPR and performed a full Advanced Life Support resuscitation – unfortunately, despite prolonged resuscitation attempts, the man was later declared dead on the scene.

The second patient was stabbed in the arm and was in a stable condition. at the scene before she was transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

It’s believed that the suspects were successfully arrested by the South African Police Services, who were at the scene to conduct a full investigation.

Lungelo Dlamini, provincial police spokesperson, said, “A woman and her employee were offloading goods from a bakkie. They were approached by two men; one had a gun and the other had a knife. The employee was shot and died on the scene. The suspect carrying the firearm was arrested yesterday by the police. The woman sustained a knife injury. The suspect with the knife is still at large.”
