Another Santa Shoebox success

The Santa Shoebox Project has inspired residents all over Sandton.

The Sandton Chronicle has published numerous stories on this specific charity project, and the Cubs from the 1st Bryanston Pack have also got on board with the aim of spreading the Christmas spirit to underprivileged children.

The Cubs supported the Shoebox Santa charity drive by wrapping, decorating and preparing personalised shoeboxes as gifts. A total of 48 boxes were completed and delivered to the local collection point at the Rosebank Union Church.

As explained in the Sandton Chronicle article, Christmas giving in spring, published on 17 September, the project involves the donation of a personalised shoebox which is filled with simple daily necessities such as toothpaste and a toothbrush which offers a child improved hygiene and also instills a sense of pride and self-worth. In addition, it provides those simple things that every child should enjoy such as sweets and a toy.

The activity was arranged as part of a programme which focused on service to others, a key value on which the Scout movement is based. Silvia Ludwig, a leader at the 1st Bryanston Pack said, “The Cubs put so much effort and love into decorating their boxes and filling them with the goodies… It was a privilege to deliver our small contribution to the collection point and witness the thousands of boxes already there and more being delivered all the time.”
