CEO offers solution to water crisis

JOHANNESBURG: Ray de Vries, chief executive officer of Water from Air, has a solution to the drought.

South Africa is currently facing a water crisis from scarcity and from contaminants found in water supplies.

According to Ray de Vries, chief executive officer of Water from Air, the rainfall that has fallen in South Africa during the past few weeks is not enough to break the current drought.

“This is the worst drought in over 100 years and relief is not coming anytime soon according to the weather experts.”

However, De Vries has an immediate solution that may be able to solve the problem. “Harvesting water from the air is a game changer. Trying to play catch-up with our country’s dilapidated infrastructure will take years and needs billions [of rand] to fix.

“There is nine times more water in the air than in all the oceans of the world. The solution to our water crisis is right under our nose and what makes me so proud is that it is made by South Africans for South Africans right here in South Africa.”

The smallest water-maker that De Vries’ company has, the AW3, produces up to 32 litres of water and the largest water-maker can make up to 1 000 litres in 24 hours. The AW3 is a purification plant in itself and is designed to replace water dispensers in homes and offices.
