Potter looks back with pride and forward with hope

SANDTON – Ward 102 Councillor David Potter reflects on the ups and downs of the past five years and explains some of his goals.

DA councillor David Potter has retained his seat in Ward 102 and reflected on some of the achievements and successes over the past five years.

“One of our achievements was a Ward 102 initiative [called] Look and Log. [This] campaign encourages residents to log service delivery issues across the city on the website www.lookandlog.co.za,” he said.

Other successes were a full upgrade of the Randburg Fire Station, funded by Multichoice; the complete resurfacing of Republic and Peter Place roads; and resurfacing a section of William Nicol Drive.

“Modifications to the traffic signals on the William Nicol corner of Republic Road to ensure the safety of motorists, and exclusive turning lanes into Republic Road and William Nicol were big accomplishments. And the same was implemented in 2015 at William Nicol, corner Sandton Drive.”

Potter was also proud of the installation of a barrier on Republic Road to limit illegal dumping. “Sadly, the gate did not stand the test of time and is the weak point which is being addressed,” Potter said.

He recognised the importance of well-kept parks in his ward. “[We achieved] the upgrade of the Bordeaux South Park [transforming it] to one of the city’s most amazing and well-used parks for families.”

A near complete upgrade of the Walter Sisulu Hall at the Randburg Sports Complex was also achieved, but Potter believes they have a long way to go. “Sadly there are still some major issues [with the hall]… seemingly from a City [of Johannesburg] or contractor dispute.”

Potter has also focused on basic services delivery issues and said, “We are focusing on issues such as potholes, streetlights, road markings, tree trimming, park grass cutting and so forth.”

Another project underway involves a portion of William Nicol Drive. “The start of the William Nicol corner Peter Place embankment stabilisation programme is underway which will include a walkway for pedestrians to traverse safely,” Potter concluded.
