Reach for a Dream’s special day for the children

SANDTON – Reach for a Dream Foundation in association with Wimp, treated the children to a special day of food and meeting their favourite celebrities.

The Reach For A Dream Foundation in association with Wimpy treated a group of children at the Sandton City Wimpy branch on 4 August in celebration of Slipper Day.

Each child of this foundation is individually living with a different form of illness, yet they still have dreams which the organisation attempts to fulfill.

The children were treated to a menu of their choice and had the chance to meet two of South Africa’s celebrities including Shift presenter, Kamohelo Bombe and the popular DJ Zinhle.

Bombe has been a part of the Slipper Day initiative for three years because of her love for children and the passion she has for helping those in need. This due to the struggles she also faced in her childhood.

Being a product of humble beginnings and defeating all the odds, Bombe is today an example to many disadvantaged children who have a dream which currently seems unreachable or impossible.

On the other hand, DJ Zinhle is drawn to reaching out to children because she herself is a mother. She said being a mom has made her focus on children more, and she now realises that a little goes a long way because to some child out there, seeing a celebrity is all they need to continue believing in their dreams and fight their illness.

The organisation has been in existence for 28 years and operates with various hospitals around the country. According to the chairman of the Reach For A Dream Foundation, Mervyn Serebro, the organisation touched the lives of 46 000 children last year alone.

Serebro further mentioned that Pick n Pay has come on board and will also play a role in touching the lives of children living with chronic and life-threatening diseases.

On 5 August, Wimpy offered free coffee to everyone who purchased a Slipper Day sticker for R10 in the hope of raising awareness of the need for funding and the lives of children. Serebro said he is very proud that the organisation has never failed to fulfill the dream of any child.
