Danone Nations Cup France-bound school to be chosen

JOBURG – The school that will represent South Africa at the Danone Nations Cup world finals in October in France will emerge this weekend.

The long sifting process is finally over as the school that will represent South Africa in the Danone Nations Cup world finals will emerge when nine provincial schools compete for the national title on 25 June.

The teams have come through local, regional and provincial elimination stages and are now playing for the big prize, the chance to represent South Africa at the Danone Nations Cup world finals in France in October. They will gather at the WJ Clements Stadium in Reiger Park, Boksburg for this prestigious title and the opportunity to be South African football ambassadors at the world finals.

Danone and their sponsorship partners, Mille, have laid on quite a day, with plenty of fun activities on the adjacent fields to entertain the public. Entrance to the stadium is free.

Of the nine competing schools only one, Eastern Cape champions, Barkerville Junior Secondary School, the 2012 national champions, has won the title before, and most of them have never competed in the nationals.

Johannesburg heroes, Bree Primary School, who were crowned champions in 2009 and 2010 at the world finals in France will, this time, watch the tournament on the small screen from home, as they were knocked out in the provincial finals. They also represented the country last year at the world finals.

Free State – Witsieshoek Primary, Phuthaditjaba

Gauteng – St Joseph’s Kulani Primary, Winterveldt

KwaZulu-Natal – Mthethomusha Primary, Edendale

Western Cape – St Helena Bay Primary, St Helena Bay

Mpumalanga – Nancy Shiba Primary, Emalahleni
