Primestars build the youth

SANDTON - The cinema at Sandton City was filled with young pupils excited to learn about the competitive job market at the final instalment of My Future, My Career on 22 May.

An initiative run by Primestars Marketing, The My Future, My Career programme offers 14 comprehensive short films over seven weeks which profile more than 115 careers in 14 different industries such as health, tourism and information technology, among others.

The initiative, which has run since 2009, gives Grade 9 to 12 pupils from disadvantaged areas insight into developing their future and their careers.

The final instalment gave the pupils the chance to look at the various opportunities in the banking and finance world.

Managing director of Primestars Marketing, Martin Sweet said, “Pupils need to know what they are looking for and must have the right attitude to position themselves in a competitive job market. The dilemma is that the majority of students go to university without being properly advised about what career path to follow.

“The My Future, My Career education project will encourage all of you here today to proactively explore and take full advantage of the career opportunities that exist for you, helping you to find your dream jobs where you can spend your life doing something that you are passionate about and which contributes to the world.”

Chief executive officer of the National Youth Development Agency, Khathu Ramukumba said, “We cannot adequately stress the importance of comprehensive career guidance in shaping a young person’s career. Without adequate information and direction, young people often make the wrong subject choices which lead to inevitable failures in life.

“Partnerships such as this one go a long way in ensuring that young people make the right choices to secure a better future.”

The programme will continue with the current group until 17 June and will continue next year.
