Junior archer achieves national colours

SANDTON – Local archer hits the bullseye at national competition

Archer Chad Himlok, a pupil of Sandton Crawford College, has achieved national colours for the sport of archery in the category of Junior Male Freestyle Recurve.

In the past six months, Himlok’s shooting blew past the provincial colours scores to achieve the national colours qualification. In a ceremony at the South African National Indoor Archery Championships in Pretoria, Himlok was presented with certificates for provincial and national colours for this year.

The provincial colours for archery was presented to Himlok by the Gauteng Target Archery Association. National colours was presented to him by the International Field Archery Association representative, Marjo Vollenbroek and South African National Archery Association president, Petrus van Breda.

Archers from across the country came to the championships event to compete, and more than 80 archers received their colours for various compound (modern bow that uses a levering system) and recurve (bow with tips that are curved towards the back) categories. Van Breda remarked that this year saw a record highest number of South African colours ever presented in the growing sport of archery.

Out of the national colours recipients, Himlok was the only qualifier in his category which is a prerequisite for South African archers to be eligible for Protea colours and international events in the next year.

At the championships, Himlok represented the Archers of Zoo Lake Club in the competition and took the silver medal in his category.
