Bring It On is brought to the Fourways High School’s centre stage

FOURWAYS - Fourways High School to perform in a joint stage production of Bring it On with Bryanston High School on 22 April.

Fourways High School pupils in a partnership with Bryanston High School pupils have been working hard on their musical stage production, Bring it On.

The pupils have been giving up hours of their time to learning intricate dance routines, mastering difficult libretto, and creating well- rounded and believable characters.

Not only have pupils given up weekends and evenings for rehearsals but they also went on a weekend training camp which allowed them to immerse themselves in the process of deepening their understanding of the play.

The dancers, actors, musicians, backstage crew and sound and lighting team, are looking forward to revealing the fruits of their hard labour on 22 April.

Creative arts and services head of department of the school, Mark Guthrie has worked tirelessly directing the young performers and bringing his vision of the play to life with the assistance of Shannon Botha, a member of the school’s production team.

Anthony Clayton, a teacher who is a consummate musician himself, has moulded young musicians to not only master their instruments, but to also breathe life into a complicated and intricate musical score.

Head of arts and culture at the school, Mervyn Elliott said choreographer Kim Rose-Matthews had taken untrained dancers and trained them to do routines of a professionally impressive standard.

“Creating a world where young dancers challenge each other to duels of skill and technique is difficult even with highly trained performers,” said Elliot. “Making it as impressive as Rose-Matthews has managed to do is no mean feat with young untrained dancers, whose greatest assets are tireless enthusiasm and youthful optimism.”

Elliott added that it was the first time in the school’s history that they were working together and staging the show with one of their ‘rival’ schools, Bryanston High School.

“It has been amazing to see friendships and co-operation between these two schools over the past few months. “Our second choreographer, Carryn Davidson, a cheerleading coach at Bryanston High School, who has led her squad to nationals, has created some daring and bold routines and it is with great pleasure that we welcome her and her pupils into our show and as part of our team for this year,” Elliott quipped.

Tickets will be on sale from 5 April.
