Active Easter and sporting spirit at St Stithians

Sandton - The St Stithians Easter Sports Festival kicked off on 23 March with aces, rackets, balls and a competitive spirit. With Standard Bank as their main sponsor, more than 1 000 players will play over 200 fixtures over the Easter weekend.

St Stithians’ communications co-ordinator, Lethabo-Thabo Royds, said this year will mark 33 years of rugby and 15 years of hockey.

Royds explained that the festival provides sporting activities for athletes of varying talents. There will be netball, tennis, basketball, squash, cross-country, hockey and rugby fixtures over the next few days.

Schools will play tennis against each other and accumulate points for every game. The points will be added up at the end of the festival and the prize-giving ceremony will be held on 26 March. The winning school is presented with the Kevin Anderson Trophy.

Thirteen-year-old Affies pupils, Albert du Plessis and Johann Roode said they were very excited to participate in the tennis tournament and said they have been practising hard and training together to get ready for their tennis matches.

The festival fixtures are made readily available and are kept up-to-date on www.saintsfestival.com. Participants and visitors to the festival should note that match fixtures may change if school teams are no longer able to attend.
