Car grille stolen at shopping centre in Morningside

MORNINGSIDE – A case of theft was opened at Sandton Police Station after a car's front grille was stolen from a VW Polo in Morningside.

Lieutenant Colonel Andre de Klerk, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, said the incident recently occurred at 90 Degrees Shopping Centre, in the centre’s parking lot.

The victim, Robert Fienberg said it was important to let others know of this incident. Fienberg believes cameras need to be installed to strengthen security measures.

De Klerk said Fienberg had left his car parked in the parking lot with all the doors and windows of the car locked to go inside the centre to purchase food. “While inside and waiting in line to buy food, he heard his car alarm go off,” explained De Klerk.

He said that when Fienberg went to go and check on his car, he found his grille had been removed.

“The car guards said they saw nothing,” added De Klerk.

The case is being investigated by the police.

No comment was received from the shopping centre by the time of publication.
