Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station said a woman was about to withdraw money from an ATM when she was approached by the suspect.
“He grabbed her ATM card without her permission, pretended he was working for the bank and said he was going to help her because the ATM was not working,” explained Maphakela.
While he was busy pressing buttons on the ATM machine, the security guard came to the woman’s rescue and chased the suspect away.
“He was later caught and detained at the Sandton Police Station for attempted robbery,” said Maphakela.
He is expected to appear in court soon.
