Youth clubs enjoys fun day out at Wanderers

ILLOVO – Scores of children and their families were treated to a fun day out at the Wanderers Stadium, courtesy of insurance company Momentum and the Ansari Youth Club.

The youth club, based in Kelvin, invited families and a group of orphans to the stadium to watch the Highveld Lions take on the Warriors in the Momentum One Day Cup.

Zeenith Lakhi, head of the club in Gauteng, explained the purpose of putting the event together.

“We wanted to host this event as a way to bring families together and allow them to spend time together in a safe environment,” she said.

“This is the second time we’ve organised this kind of event and we basically approached Momentum and shared our plan with them and, in return, they sponsored 500 tickets, 100 balls and bats for the kids and also provided us with an area to sit in during the match.”

Lakhi added that, in addition to inviting families, the club invited orphans from one of the organisations they worked with, Foundation of Love, to enjoy the fun day out too.

Misha Joy, speaking on behalf of Momentum said, “Momentum decided to sponsor this as a way to create a family-friendly environment and to bring the love back to cricket stadiums.”

She added that the company has been doing this for the past five years and that it was exciting to see children having fun in a safe and secure environment.

“Hats off to Momentum for bringing this initiative to life and filling the stadiums,” she concluded.

The one-day cup clash saw the Lions emerge victorious with a four-run win over the Warriors.
