Main water supply pipe leaks out of control in Bryanston

BRYANSTON – A main water supply pipe is leaking at the bottom of 12th Avenue and Cowley Road, under a bridge that crosses the spruit, in Bryanston.

This according to resident Colin Fletcher who said there is an unbelievable amount of water being lost every day. “The water is now pouring out in what must be hundreds of litres per hour,” Fletcher added.

This issue comes after a burst water pipe junction reported last year was recently resolved. “This burst pipe had been leaking for months, and the leak had become very severe,” he explained.

“I would estimate that thousands of litres were being lost each day. The leak was so severe that it had eroded and washed away the surrounding earth, resulting in the formation of a large fresh water pool. This potable water was flooding into the spruit.”

Fletcher would like to see the main water supply pipe fixed before the matter spirals out of control, as it did with the burst water pipe junction.

David Sibiya, spokesperson of Joburg Water, said he forwarded the query to the relevant depot for investigation.

Fletcher also added that the dumping of litter in the area has also increased from last year.
