McDonald’s ends 20-year celebration on a high

JOBURG – Renowned fast-food giant, McDonald’s South Africa, recently ended off their 20-year anniversary celebrations on an inspirational note.

The company hosted an event at their head office in Sandton to celebrate the milestone, which included an exclusive screening of iStories, a mini documentary featuring employees sharing their journeys with the company over the years.

Greg Solomon, chief executive officer of McDonalds South Africa, explained that hosting the event was a way to reflect on the past 20 years with their employees and customers.

“It’s an opportunity to reflect on our history and tell the stories of others affiliated with the company and their journey,” he said.

“McDonald’s has not only lived history, but we’ve also made history with some of the initiatives we’ve introduced in the country over the years.”

Solomon also touched on bringing iStories back to life, with the first instalment hosted in 2013, explaining that the company identified the best stories to tell.

Indeed, employees shared their inspiring journeys with the company, with Reggie Skhosana, chairperson of the Ronald McDonald House Charities, reflecting on his own path as a franchise owner.

“Through being a part of McDonald’s, I was able to experience new things and I have evolved from being just a businessman to being a mentor and trainer to young kids,” he said.

He lauded the company for the strides made in the last two decades and expressed hope that it would grow and expand in the next 20 years.

Adding to this was Jo-ann de Wet, chief restaurant support officer for McDonald’s SA, who lauded McDonald’s for providing entrepreneurs with a multitude of opportunities.

The 20-year anniversary celebrations took place on 2 December and also included stories from Petulla Pienaar, Colin Masina, Peter Moyanga and Sechaba Motsieloa.
