La Liga opens a new office in Sandton

INANDA – Renowned Spanish soccer league La Liga, home to soccer giants Barcelona FC and Real Madrid, announced the opening of its first-ever office in Johannesburg.

The office, also the first on African soil, is located in Inanda and was unveiled by president of the league, Javier Tebas, along with various delegates of the Spanish league.

Tebas explained that opening the office was part of a strategy to expand Spanish football internationally.

“It’s a historic day for La Liga. We are very happy to open this office in Johannesburg and to be closer to our loyal fans and broadcasters. For us, being here, is a strategic move and we want to be even more present in the future,” he said.

“The goal of the new office is to extend the global positioning of La Liga´s brand to Africa, approaching African fans that enthusiastically follow Spanish football.”

Adding to this was Antonio Barradas, country manager of La Liga in South Africa, who expressed the hope that the opening would herald an opportunity for mutual growth between Spain and South Africa.

“It will be hugely beneficial for La Liga and for the country, as we know, South Africans really love football and, increasingly, Spanish football. We will be with them, listening and offering all our effort,” he said.

He concluded by adding that the league’s main objective was to transfer skills and raise future leaders, using soccer as a developmental sport to achieve these goals.

La Liga is home to some of the most famous clubs, including Barcelona FC and Real Madrid. The announcement was made on 24 November 2015 while the office opened last month.
