Celebrating teaching excellence at Varsity College Sandton

SANDTON - Varsity College Sandton recently hosted a breakfast for their lecturers who have made outstanding contributions to teaching and learning.

 

The lectures were honoured for their performance during the 2014/2015 academic year and lecturers across all programmes at the school attended.

“We aim for each of our students to leave with more than just a degree,” said Andre Lubbe, Varsity College Sandton principal. “We want the students to leave with a lifetime of knowledge, that’s why we believe our lecturers to be one of our most valuable assets to Varsity College Sandton and the students alike.”

The vice principal of student support, Vedhna Lalla, handed out awards to the lecturers.

Winners of the best national pass rates included Hulukani Bhila, Jan Snyman, Georg Knoke, Busisiwe Mogoba and Ina Frost.

The key focus of the awards was the Charles Freysen Teaching Excellence Award. This award acknowledges the dedication and commitment of lecturers inside and outside the classroom in pursuit of academic excellence.

The Charles Freysen Teaching Excellence Award seeks to recognise lecturers who demonstrate creative and innovative teaching approaches to promote productive learning.

This year, Patrizia Scalone, lecturing Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communication, Bachelor of the Arts in Health Science and Social Services and Unisa Bachelor of Education programmes was nominated as a candidate.

She is also among other lecturers recognised by the Independent Institute of Education for the recipient of the National Award which will be recognised at a national graduation ceremony.
