Residents and businesses urged to help keep Rivonia clean

RIVONIA - AIMED at improving the state of Rivonia and getting the community to play their part, Daniel Hunt, a resident of Rivonia, is urging businesses and residents within the suburb to get involved in the clean-up he organises.

Hunt began the initiative eight years ago with the renewal of the Sandspruit area. It has since evolved to include a regular clean-up of Rivonia Road and Rivonia Boulevard.

Hunt, a passionate environmentalist, explained the reason behind his decision to start the massive undertaking over a year ago. “It was all about improving the quality of life in our suburbs and educating fellow South Africans to not pollute,” he said.

“This initiative is also about getting the entire community involved in keeping it clean. It can become a looking glass for other communities on how involvement can go a long way.”

Hunt also stressed the importance of having businesses involved, saying that they play a big role in Rivonia and by contributing a small amount, much can be done to preserve the long-standing suburb.

“Rivonia has such historic value and it’s important for us to maintain it. When a suburb is clean it is unlikely to attract criminals and vagrants as much,” he said.

Hunt also spoke about a few challenges in driving the initiative, saying that it remained a massive undertaking to continue, as most businesses and residents remained reluctant to get involved.

He did thank those businesses and residents who have contributed to the initiative and expressed the hope that it would inspire others to take a stand and get more involved.

Finally, Hunt expressed gratitude to his seven employees for their commitment and stressed that it was also about job creation – something he is also passionate about.

“These guys are doing a good job and it’s [really] not about getting praise or bragging about what I’ve done, but rather about highlighting the work these men do and also their enthusiasm and passion when doing it,” he concluded.
