A new Mr and Miss Varsity College Sandton for 2015

RIVONIA - MR AND Miss Varsity College Sandton 2015 were crowned at Movida Night Club in Rivonia.

Chad Farish and Nombuso Mbatha are this year’s Mr and Miss Varsity College Sandton. Farish is a first-year student in Higher Certificate in Business Principles and Practices, and Mbatha is a first-year student in Bachelor of the Arts in Corporate Communication.

On behalf of the college, Oratile Matlapeng said R15 000 was raised during the event for the Masixhasane Literacy Project, which is Varsity College’s national community social initiative project.

“This project provides underprivileged primary schools with mobile libraries, and the Mr and Miss VC pageant is just one of the events hosted to raise funds towards this end,” said Matlapeng.

He said the evening was themed, Champagne and Chandeliers, and was well-supported by enthusiastic students and contestants.

“Napsta, a comedian, was the master of ceremonies for the evening which culminated in the crowning after contestants strutted their stuff in a variety of fashion statements which ranged from casual to formal attire,” explained Matlapeng.

He said contestants surprised everyone, including the judges, when they embraced the theme and made their appearance tastefully adorned in gold, silver and white.

“Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success,” said student relations manager at the college, Vasanthee Govender.

“Without many sponsors which included Galxboy, Pandora, Euro Suite, Planet Fitness, and The Gilded Hanger’s generous contributions, it would not have been possible.”

She said the R15 000 raised would go a long way towards the R100 000 the college aims to raise for the purchase of a mobile library unit.
