Joburg Water tells resident to hire private plumber to fix water leak

MORNINGSIDE - JOBURG Water has advised a resident to get a private plumber to fix the running water at a cul-de-sac off West Road North in Morningside.

The resident, Amanda Murray, was not impressed with Joburg Water’s response.

Eleanor Mavimbela from Joburg Water said, “The team has been on site and found that it’s an internal leak, so the customer needs to get a private plumber to fix it.” Mavimbela added that Joburg Water does not repair internal leaks.

“This is outrageous,” said Murray.

“As I already stated in my initial correspondence months ago, this is not an internal leak.” She said both her plumber and her neighbour’s plumber have confirmed that there was no leak emanating from either of their properties. “This really is not good enough and I am absolutely astounded at the response,” added Murray.

She was particularly surprised that Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency, had previously said that they found out that there were three leaking valves which were causing the problem and that as soon as the leakages had been resolved, reinstatement work would be completed. Peters-Scheepers also added that the query had been logged with Joburg Water and the matter would be attended to by them.

Mavimbela had also previously said to the Sandton Chronicle that a team would be dispatched to attend to the call.
