Marlboro Gardens pupil wins big

MARLBORO - Marlboro Gardens Combined School showed pride in Grade 5 pupil Lesego Candy Khumalo who won a R25 000 bursary from Liberty Holdings Limited on 23 April.

Khumalo entered the Liberty colouring competition which has been in operation for two years, and received R25 000 which will contribute to her primary school career.

Senior financial advisor at Liberty Mark Stevens said, “We want to re-inforce our commitment to education in South Africa. As a company, we are determined that proper education will be delivered to the children.”

Stevens added, “At the moment, we are running a colouring competition to give pupils the opportunity to get an education through winning the competition.”

The competition is run across South Africa through the Liberty’s branches and distribution channels.

Principal of Marlboro Gardens Combined School Avril van Zyl said, “Obviously we are extremely proud and thankful to Liberty for creating this opportunity as it aligns with the school’s vision because our intention is to develop the child. And though we are an academic institution, we try our best to create opportunities for our pupils in other spheres.”

Van Zyl added that the competition is a commendable initiative and will teach other pupils the importance of hard work.

Lesego’s mother, Precious Khumalo, expressed great pride in her daughter’s achievement. She said, “I’m so excited about this award.”

Lesego concluded that she couldn’t believe that she won and hopes the award will inspire other pupils at the school to work harder.
