VIDEO: Crawford College Sandton pupil prepares for pageant in Turkey

SANDTON - Crawford College Sandton pupil, Katlego Ncala, will represent her school and the whole of Africa at the Miss Teen World 2015 pageant in Turkey.

Ncala (15) from Fourways is Miss Teen Africa 2014 and she will be competing on 5 May for the Miss Teen World 2015 title.

Known to her peers as Kat, Ncala started participating in pageants at 12 years old. At the age of 13, she won the Miss Teen Pageants SA title and was honoured to represent South Africa in Las Vegas where she won the International Model of the year 2013/2014 title.

When she returned to South Africa from her time in Las Vegas, she planned to push the beauty with a purpose concept in South Africa and change the lives of others as well as create careers. “Beauty opens doors, but beauty with a purpose opens minds and hearts,” she said.

In the competition, she managed to impress the judges and contestants with her proud African spirit.

“We are all African and we should all work together,” said Ncala. “Nothing makes us better than the other African countries. We’re all equal.” She added that she finds the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa unnecessary.

Ncala said she just wants to represent South Africa as best as she can in Turkey.

She is also a very dedicated pupil at school and she sees herself pursuing law as a career.

Winning the Miss Teen Africa title opened up many doors for her which led to her and a group of five friends starting a foundation called Choices for Young Voices. The group goes out to schools and shares their life experiences, motivates and tries to help other teenagers to make the right decisions.

“Helping children that are my age is such an incredible purpose; I find it easier talking to them because we can relate to each other,” she explained. “I just feel so blessed. Sometimes I wonder how I actually achieved all of this. I’m just a 15-year-old girl.”

She also works with many other charity organisations and regularly donates goods to children’s homes in Diepsloot where the children have either been abandoned or abused.
